Frequently Asked Questions
What type of conditions do you treat?
We primarily work with people who care about their relationships, work, school and their emotional wellbeing. This often means we help people with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and relationship issues. You can learn more about our specialties by clicking here.
How do I know if I have ADHD and if I need medication?
A very thorough way of assessing for ADHD is by taking a comprehensive psychological assessment. You can learn more about our ADHD evaluations by reading this page. Inner Wave Therapy does not prescribe medication, but we are happy to refer you to trusted psychiatrists who specialize in ADHD.
Why is your approach different than any other therapist’s approach?
Most psychotherapy clinics are forced to cram as many patients through the door as possible. This is due to the progressively worsening reimbursement rates insurance companies provide these clinics. So, the only solution is to have each provider see multiple patients an hour, leading to burnout. Patients may also have limited therapy sessions, long wait times, and having no direct access to your therapist. Here at Inner Wave Therapy, our scheduling is more flexible, your therapist puts in time to prepare for your treatment, and you have direct access to contact your therapist outside of session. This means more focused care, faster results, and less time away from living your best life.
How often do I come in for sessions at Inner Wave Therapy?
Typically, we see most people on a once or twice per week frequency for the first 4-6 months that you are seeing us. Afterwards, we will assess to see if we can start to stretch your visits to once every other week until your care is finished.
What is your approach to therapy?
It’s essential for us that our clients feel comfortable with their therapist. Our approach to therapy is one we take in any relationship: curiosity, acceptance, compassion, and honesty. We use psychodynamic psychotherapy. This means we look at historical roots and how it affects the present. These unconscious thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are brought to our attention with the guidance of a trusted therapist.
Relationship-driven psychotherapy has been proven to living a happier, more fulfilling and meaningful life. Develop a more loving relationship with yourself and navigate your inner waves with confidence.
What can I expect during the first therapy session?
The initial visit is a period for you and your therapist to get to know each other and get an idea of how to proceed. Your therapist will focus on establishing a relationship with you by asking questions about your symptoms, history, and goals. It is normal to feel a little nervous, and it is encouraged to express any concern you may have. After the first session is when the therapeutic work will begin.
